Product Overview
The Type 61B 0.64/1.1kV flexible copper screened mining cable is specifically designed for powering electrically driven machinery and movable electrical apparatus in hazardous industrial environments. Manufactured in accordance with stringent South African National Standards (SANS), this cable combines exceptional flexibility with robust protection, including individual copper braided screens for each power core and a rugged polychloroprene sheath. It is engineered for fixed or occasional movement (not for continuous reeling) in mines and similar demanding locations.

Construction

The Type 61B cable features a sophisticated multi-component design to ensure reliable performance in harsh mining environments:
-
Conductors: Flexible Class 5 tinned annealed copper wires, stranded with left-hand lay, complying with SANS 1411-1. Each conductor is covered with a semi-conducting rubber screen.
-
Insulation: Ethylene propylene thermosetting compound type RD 3, complying with SANS 1411-3, with a strippable semi-conducting core screen applied via triple extrusion.
-
Core Assembly: Three power cores, each shielded with a tinned copper braid screen, and three unscreened pilot cores (one in each interstice) laid up with right-hand lay around a semi-conductive rubber filler.
-
Inner Sheath: Polychloroprene thermosetting compound type RS 6, complying with SANS 1411-3.
-
Reinforcement: An open nylon braid comprising a minimum of 16 nylon strings.
-
Outer Sheath: Polychloroprene thermosetting compound type RS 6, complying with SANS 1411-3.
-
Colour of Sheath: Black.
-
Tests: The cable is tested in accordance with SANS 1520-1.
