2 AWG 4C+6 AWG GND CU/XLPE/PVC Type MC Power Cable – 600V

Product Overview:

This 600V Black Type MC Power Cable features four 2 AWG current-carrying conductors and one 6 AWG bare copper ground conductor, insulated with Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) and protected by Aluminum Interlocked Armor (AIA) with a PVC overall jacket. Engineered for superior electrical performance, durability, and safety compliance.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Wet or Dry Locations: Suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

  • Installation Methods: Approved for use in conduit, duct, cable tray, troughs, direct earth burial, and messenger-supported aerial applications.

  • Hazardous Locations: Certified for Class I, II, and III, Division 2 areas per NEC Articles 501 & 502.

  • Versatile Environments: Ideal for industrial plants, commercial buildings, utility distribution, and service feeders where robust protection and reliability are required.

  • Silicone Free.

CONDUCTOR:

  • Phase/Neutral Conductors (4): 2 AWG, Class B compressed stranded bare copper per ASTM B3 and ASTM B8.

  • Equipment Grounding Conductor (1): 6 AWG, Class B compressed stranded bare copper per ASTM B3 and ASTM B8.

INSULATION:

  • Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE), Type XHHW-2.

  • Key Properties: Excellent thermal stability, moisture resistance, chemical resistance, and high dielectric strength.

GROUND:

  • Integral 6 AWG bare copper ground conductor (as specified under Conductors).

CABLE CONSTRUCTION:

  1. Conductors: Four 2 AWG + One 6 AWG bare copper ground.

  2. Insulation: XLPE (XHHW-2) individually on each current-carrying conductor.

  3. Assembly: Conductors cabled together with ground.

  4. Inner Wrap: Typically a non-hygroscopic tape (not explicitly stated, but standard MC construction).

  5. Armor: Aluminum Interlocked Armor (AIA). Provides exceptional mechanical protection, crush resistance, and acts as an equipment grounding path (requires proper termination per NEC).

  6. Overall Jacket: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Black. Offers sunlight resistance, abrasion resistance, and protection against moisture, oils, and chemicals.

TEMPERATURE RATINGS:

  • Normal Operation (Wet/Dry): 90°C (194°F) continuous.

  • Emergency Overload: 130°C (266°F) maximum, limited duration (consult standards).

  • Short Circuit: 250°C (482°F) maximum conductor temperature based on 1-second fault criteria.

STANDARDS & COMPLIANCE:

  • UL 1569 (Metal-Clad Cables)

  • UL 44 (Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables) - For XHHW-2 insulation.

  • UL 1685 (Vertical-Tray Fire-Propagation & Smoke-Release Test)

  • ASTM B3 (Standard Specification for Soft or Annealed Copper Wire)

  • ASTM B8 (Standard Specification for Concentric-Lay-Stranded Copper Conductors, Class B)

  • ICEA S-58-679 (Standard for Control Cables - Conductor Identification: 1-Black, 2-Red, 3-Blue, 4-Orange)

  • ICEA S-95-658 (NEMA WC 70) (Standard for Power Cables Rated 2000 Volts or Less for the Distribution of Electrical Energy)

  • Listed: Suitable for use per National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Hazardous Locations: Certified for Class I, II, III, Division 2 (NEC 501, 502).
