Product Overview

Signalling cables play an essential role in ensuring the smooth running and reliability of the railway network, hence their unique specifications and design. They ensure the transmission of signals and a continuous power supply across all trackside signalling equipment applications. These cables are used for control and signal conveyance and keep the rail networks, with their passengers and cargo, moving safely.

We offer a comprehensive range of Network Rail‑approved signalling cables, with NR/PS/SIG/00005 specific applications designated by Type, and available in single, twin and multi‑core varieties. Cables to this specification have an insulation which is either an elastomer or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) type with tinned copper conductors. They have a voltage rating of 650/1100V and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +85°C.


Specifications – Signalling Cable Types Overview

Type Description
Type A1, A2, A3 & A4 Light‑duty, flame‑retardant, insulated or insulated & sheathed in LSZH compound. Class 2 stranded tinned conductor. For internal use: free wiring in ducting, relay rooms, signal boxes, REBs, location cases.
Type B1 & B2 Heavy‑duty EPR insulated & HDPCP sheathed. Class 2 stranded tinned conductor. Protects against mechanical impact, oils, greases, abrasion. Used between equipment boxes, signal boxes, relay rooms, location cases.
Type C1, C2 & C3 Heavy‑duty, suitable for tails. PET separator tape, Class 5 flexible tinned conductor. C3 type for TPWS applications includes drain wire and aluminium tape screening.
Type D1 & D2 Class 2 stranded tinned conductor, LSZH sheath, PET separator tape. Used for Type B1/B2 applications in tunnels and underground (additional fire performance).
Type E1, E2 & E3 Class 5 flexible tinned conductor, LSZH sheath. E3 type includes drain wire and aluminium tape screening. For Type C1/C2/C3 applications in tunnels and underground (additional fire performance).
Signalling Cable (Co‑Polymer) Manufactured to Westinghouse Brake & Signal Company specification D.S.C.E 1010 for Invensys signalling system rail applications.
